Episode 10: Faro, Yukon’s Sheep & Crane Viewing Festival

(Originally aired live)

Host Jennifer Hawks takes My Yukon Life listeners on location to Faro, Yukon for the annual Sheep and Crane Viewing Festival. Jennifer captures the highlights of the three day event, which includes local bluegrass music, a wild game BBQ, and fireside presentations.

Faro is home to 400 citizens, a town that was named after the card game. When the Faro mine was operating at its peak, the population was just under 2,000. When ore prices dropped in 1985, Faro’s population dipped to 97. The mine is now closed and Faro’s economy is primarily dependent on tourism. Take a virtual trip to Faro with your host, Jennifer Hawks.
